55% Aluminum-Zinc alloy coated steel, commonly known as Galvalume® or ZINCALUME®, is a premium steel coating solution widely used in industrial roofing, water storage tanks, fire water tanks, and building cladding.
This coating is made of 55% aluminum, 43.5% zinc, and 1.5% silicon, combining the barrier protection of aluminum with the galvanic protection of zinc. As a result, it provides 2 to 4 times longer corrosion resistance than traditional galvanized steel, especially in marine, industrial, and rural environments.
The secret behind its performance lies in its unique microstructure, where zinc-rich areas corrode first and form protective layers that slow down further corrosion. This makes aluminum-zinc alloy-coated steel ideal for outdoor and exposed steel applications.
In addition to corrosion resistance, Galvalume steel sheets also offer excellent heat resistance, tolerating temperatures up to 400°C, making them suitable for high-temperature roofing and industrial use.
However, this material is not recommended for animal confinement buildings and should not be used in direct contact with wet concrete.
Overall, 55% Aluminum-Zinc alloy coated steel is a cost-effective, long-life solution for industries that demand durability, strength, and minimal maintenance.
